Malvern Arms

The Malvern Arms appears in 697. The Troubles: Murder in Belfast (Part 1) as the Protestant pub near the Shankill Road where Peter Ward and three other young Catholic men drank on 25 June 1966. The episode says Gusty Spence and his gang were also there and wrongly identified them as IRA men.

When the men left, gunmen opened fire, killing Ward and wounding Andrew Kelly. The pub therefore functions as a concrete flashpoint in the source’s argument that fear, rumor, and paramilitary self-dramatization became lethal before the later 1968-1969 street battles.
