Hanji 175 moves Modu’s page backward from the later 白登之围 into his rise. 头曼单于 first sends him as hostage to 月氏 and then attacks Yuezhi, making the episode treat Modu’s later patricide as the outcome of an attempted succession killing rather than a random seizure.

The source foregrounds Modu’s 绝对服从式指挥训练. His whistling-arrow drills escalate from a favorite horse to a favored wife and then to the world around Touman, executing anyone who hesitates. Once obedience follows the signal rather than personal feeling, Modu kills Touman during a hunt, eliminates rival family and officers, and becomes chanyu.

Hanji 175 then gives Modu a strategic-concession sequence. He yields a prized horse and a wife to 东胡, letting Donghu read restraint as fear, but refuses the demanded land because territory is treated as the root of the state. That mix of concessions, red line, and sudden attack lets him destroy Donghu, then move against Yuezhi and other northern groups before turning the Xiongnu into the direct frontier danger facing early 西汉.

Hanji 177 moves Modu from steppe consolidation into direct operational design against Liu Bang. After seeing Xiongnu cavalry take losses against Han mixed formations and strong crossbows, the episode says Modu changes the fight: he avoids fixed defense, displays weak animals and exhausted troops to Han envoys, lets 刘敬 / 楼敬 be the one envoy who reads the display as false, and then uses cavalry mobility to surround Liu Bang at the 白登之围.

Hanji 178 gives the release decision more than one cause. 阏氏 presses him to accept Han terms after 陈平 turns a possible Han victory into her fear of status loss, but the episode argues that Modu is not a ruler easily moved by household sentiment alone. His missing rendezvous with Wang Huang and Zhao Li, suspicion of allied defection, incoming Han reinforcements, memory of Qin-Han military force, and limited raiding objective all make the release a case of 围困开口式风险权衡.

Hanji 179 makes Modu the intended counterpart of Liu Jing’s concrete heqin design. 刘敬 / 楼敬 argues that 刘邦 should send a real legitimate princess, not a substitute, because Modu’s discovery of deception would be dangerous. Modu’s role here is not developed through his own speech, but through the risk calculation Han advisers make about his power, temper, and ability to punish bad-faith diplomacy.

Hanji 180 records the policy compromise from the Han side: Liu Bang sends a woman named as legitimate elder princess to Modu and has Liu Jing escort her. Modu again remains mostly the external constraint rather than a speaking actor, but the episode shows his power forcing Han into a marriage-and-goods settlement even after Lu Zhi blocks the real Princess Lu Yuan plan.

冒顿单于 / Modu Chanyu enters this wiki branch through Hanji 150 part 4 as the 匈奴 ruler whose forces trap 刘邦 during the 白登之围. The source uses him mainly as the opponent whose military advantage cannot be solved by frontal Han force.
