马腾 / Ma Teng

马腾 / Ma Teng enters the wiki through Hanji 1015 as one of the strongest military leaders in 关中. 荀彧 tells 曹操 that the western generals are numerous but fragmented, with Ma Teng and 韩遂 the most important among them.

After 钟繇 sends letters from 长安 explaining the interests at stake, Ma Teng is grouped with Han Sui among those who accept the Han court’s side and send sons to the court. The source treats this as rear stabilization: Cao Cao does not need Guanzhong permanently settled before acting elsewhere, but he does need it calm enough not to become Yuan Shao’s western route.
