马邑 / Mayi
马邑 / Mayi enters the wiki through Hanji 174 as the frontier capital requested by 韩王信. After 刘邦 moves him from the old Han interior to the Taiyuan-area kingdom, Han Wang Xin argues that 晋阳 is too far from the border to answer 匈奴 attacks and asks to move the capital north to Mayi.
In this source, Mayi marks the double edge of 边境迁封式牵制. The move puts a capable non-Liu king where his military ability can be used against an external threat, but it also moves him away from the strategic heartland.
Hanji 175 turns Mayi from requested frontier capital into the siege and surrender point. 匈奴 forces surround the city, Han Wang Xin negotiates while asking 刘邦 for help, Liu Bang suspects him, and Han Wang Xin finally hands Mayi over. The place now anchors both the logic and the breakdown of the frontier-vassal arrangement.
Hanji 177 makes Mayi the opening breach of the Baideng campaign. After the surrender, Han Wang Xin and Xiongnu-linked forces can operate through the northern frontier, drawing Liu Bang into a campaign that first defeats Han Wang Xin at 上党 and then moves toward the 白登之围.
