Phoebe Caulfield / 菲比
Phoebe Caulfield / 菲比 is [[HoldenCaulfield|Holden Caulfield / 霍尔顿]]’s younger sister in [[TheCatcherInTheRye|《麦田里的守望者》]]. In 01.麦田守望者:20世纪的美国贾宝玉, she is the person to whom Holden explains the “catcher in the rye” fantasy: he wants to stand at the edge of a field and catch children before they fall.
The episode uses Phoebe to show that Holden’s alienation is not hatred of life. His love for her, like his concern for Jane and for fragile small things such as ducks, shows the protective and tender core beneath his complaint. This makes her central to Adolescent Alienation Recognition: Holden’s wish to save children is also evidence that he himself needs saving.
