Prince Mochihito is the blocked imperial claimant whose anti-Taira appeal helps open the armed revolt that becomes the Genpei War.

The plan fails quickly. Kiyomori’s spies discover the plot, Mochihito flees Kyoto disguised as a woman, gains limited monastic support at Miidera, and is killed after the Uji Bridge Battle.
