乾隆 / Qianlong Emperor enters 11.雍正王朝之大义觉迷：史景迁笔下的千古奇案 as the ruler who reversed [[YongzhengEmperor|雍正]]’s handling of the [[ZengJing|曾静]] case. Soon after Yongzheng’s death, the episode says Qianlong had Zeng Jing and [[ZhangXi|张熙]] arrested again and executed, while also suppressing [[DaiYiJueMiLu|《大义觉迷录》]].

The episode uses Qianlong as a contrast in ruler style. Yongzheng argued with and tried to convert a rural scholar; Qianlong preferred erasure, punishment, and restored control. The source does not present either strategy as finally successful: suppression could make the banned book seem more dangerous, just as publication had made rumors easier to remember.
