龟兹 / Qiuci Kingdom is a Western Regions polity whose current wiki role is to show how local alignment, Han protectorate placement, and regional rivalries shaped Eastern Han frontier control after Ban Chao.

Current Profile

Hanji 790 first uses Qiuci as part of a regional balance field: Shule becomes strong enough to balance Qiuci and Khotan after succession and alignment shifts under renewed Northern Xiongnu suzerainty. In that layer, Qiuci matters as one of the major Western Regions powers affected by Han withdrawal and attempted re-entry.

Hanji 779 gives Qiuci the more concrete early layer. The episode says Qiuci initially remains loyal to Han because Ban Chao had previously installed the pro-Han king Ba Ba. After Ren Shang’s harsh governance triggers Western Regions rebellion, Duan Xi and Liang Jin move the protectorate seat into Qiuci. That move creates a new local-elite problem: Qiuci nobles resent the protectorate presence and join with Gumo and Wensu forces to attack the city. Liang Jin defeats the attack, but the court still recalls the Western Regions officials and troops.
