Rich Aberman
Rich Aberman is the WePay co-founder in Bill Clerico on WePay, YC, and Fire Tech. The original group-payments idea came from his difficulty collecting money from 13 people for his brother’s bachelor party.
Aberman and Bill Clerico met as high-school seniors while interviewing for the same Boston College scholarship, both received it, and became roommates. When WePay became serious, Aberman deferred NYU Law, lost a full scholarship, moved onto Clerico’s couch, and joined the company’s push toward Y Combinator.
The episode uses Aberman’s law-school sacrifice as evidence of founder commitment. It also shows that WePay’s starting insight was personal and small before the company learned its larger opportunity was [[PaymentsInfrastructurePivot|payments infrastructure]].
