Roy Disney
Roy Disney is Walt Disney’s brother and the business/finance partner in The Walt Disney Company: Walt’s Era. The episode presents Roy as the counterpart who kept The Walt Disney Company funded, negotiated through debt and outside capital, and pushed back on the financial risk behind Walt’s biggest creative bets.
Roy’s role becomes most visible after Walt Disney’s death. He renamed the Florida project Walt Disney World, postponed retirement, scaled back Walt’s city vision, completed the Magic Kingdom and hotels without taking on debt, and died only months after the 1971 opening.
