猿蟹合战 / Saru Kani Gassen

猿蟹合战 is the Japanese folk revenge tale discussed in 99.很久很久以前，妖怪也推理啊… through 青柳碧人’s mystery rewriting. The episode gives the base story as a monkey deceiving and killing a crab, after which the crab’s allies, named as栗子,马蜂,石臼, and牛粪, cooperate in revenge.

The rewritten version turns those folk-tale roles into a logic puzzle. The episode explains that the role names become monkey code names, that one expected role identity is wrong, and that tanuki shapeshifting makes the final target and past murder harder to identify. This makes the tale a strong case of 设定系推理: the solution depends not on rejecting animal transformation, but on reasoning carefully once transformation is allowed.
