Hanji 399 now backfills the prelude: Shangguan Jie’s resentment is tied to blocked requests for Ding Wairen and Shangguan kin, and he participates in the forged Yan king memorial against Huo before the later assassination plan.

The combined episodes present Shangguan Jie less as an independent strategist than as the senior name around whom a desperate faction organizes. Hanji 399 shows an initial slander-and-procedure strategy: use Liu Dan’s name in a forged memorial, make Huo Guang look like a potential rebel, and wait for Han Zhao to order an investigation that would let court opponents strip Huo of power. After that fails, Hanji 400-1 shows Shangguan Jie, 上官安, 盖长公主, 桑弘羊, and others moving toward a banquet assassination plan: kill Huo, depose Han Zhao, and initially use 燕王刘旦 as the replacement claimant.
