The same source later names the Shendi Qiang again as the group attacking Zhangye and Jiuquan after 皇甫规’s initial victory and mass surrender. Their renewed action forces Huangfu Gui to mobilize surrendered Qiang groups toward Longyou, where the army finds its retreat blocked and epidemic conditions become severe.
