苏高 / Su Gao enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·秦纪》103-1｜司马迁看中的信陵君算是小人吗？ as the 安陵君 subordinate whom 信陵君 wants to use against 管城. The city is defended for 秦国 by Su Gao’s son, so Su Gao refuses Xinlingjun’s offer of rank and command.

His refusal is the episode’s hardest ethical case. If he attacks the city, father and son are forced into public opposition; if his son yields because of him, the son betrays his own ruler. Su Gao therefore treats family shame and ruler-subject duty as reasons not to serve Xinlingjun’s immediate military objective.

After Xinlingjun threatens 安陵君 with a 100,000-troop attack unless Su Gao is bound and delivered, Su Gao decides that his continued refusal will endanger the lord who protected him. He kills himself at the Wei envoy’s lodging, converting a military recruitment conflict into 国存亡与父子君臣义冲突.
