《郯城县志》 / Tancheng County Gazetteer is one of [[JonathanSpence|史景迁]]’s three main source bases in [[TheDeathOfWomanWang|《王氏之死》]]. 148. 王氏之死：断井颓垣上的历史妆镜 presents it as the record that makes [[Tancheng|郯城]] visible through disasters, taxes, lawsuits, official events, and local elites, while also showing the limits of such documents for ordinary women.

The gazetteer supports the episode’s Microhistory From Hostile Archives frame. It can describe the 1668 earthquake, famine, social disorder, and tax burdens, but it does not preserve [[WangShiTancheng|王氏]]’s voice. The source therefore has to place the gazetteer beside [[HuangLiuhong|黄六鸿]]’s [[FuhuiQuanshu|《福惠全书》]] and [[PuSongling|蒲松龄]]’s [[LiaozhaiZhiyi|《聊斋志异》]].
