滕国 / Teng State

滕国 / Teng State enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·周纪》45|以史为鉴,君王到底该不该杀人成性? as one of the smaller states or territories swallowed by 宋康王 / 宋君偃 during 宋国’s aggressive expansion. That first notice makes Teng part of the pattern where Song’s military success creates enemies around it.

《资治通鉴·周纪》68丨惊叹宋康王荒淫无度的狗血历史(2) gives Teng a sharper interpretive role. The episode says Teng was one of the Spring-and-Autumn remnant small states and the one Warring States polity willing to experiment with 孟子 / Mencius’s program, including a return to well-field-style agrarian order. Because 《孟子》 preserves a dedicated Teng Wen Gong branch, Song Kang Wang’s destruction of Teng becomes more than conquest: it gives Confucian critics a morally charged reason to condemn him.

In this source, Teng is therefore a small-state vulnerability case and a reputation trigger. Its fall helps convert Song Kang Wang from a successful but violent expansionist into the kind of ruler whose defeat can be justified through 道德化战争借口 and later remembered through 亡国君污名建构.
