田儋 / Tian Dan (Qin Rebel) enters the wiki through Qinji 128-6 as one of the parallel rebel leaders who rise after 陈胜 and 吴广. The source says Tian Dan raises troops in old 齐国 territory during the same broader wave that includes 刘邦 in 沛县 and 项梁 in Wu County.
Qinji 128-8 gives that earlier notice its story. Tian Dan is in Di county with kinsmen Tian Rong and Tian Heng when 张楚政权 forces arrive outside the city. He uses a staged request about killing a household slave to bring the county magistrate out, kills him, gathers local youth, and claims Qi royal identity as the basis for becoming king.
This page is deliberately disambiguated from 田单 / Tian Dan, the Warring States Qi restoration general. The two names share pinyin in common transcription, but the source’s 田儋 belongs to the Qin-collapse rebellion context, not the earlier Jimo restoration branch.
Qinji 129-4 adds Tian Dan’s failed coordination with the Chu-side 景居 / 景驹 branch. 秦嘉 sends 公孙庆 to ask Qi to join an attack on Qin, but Tian Dan asks why Zhang Chu installed Jing Ju without first consulting Qi. When Gongsun Qing answers that Qi also proclaimed a king without consulting Zhang Chu, Tian Dan kills him.
The episode therefore sharpens Tian Dan’s role inside 反秦阵营诸侯化分裂. Qi restoration is anti-Qin in origin, but Tian Dan still defends Qi’s status and authorization claims against another anti-Qin claimant.
Qinji 130-3 gives Tian Dan’s endpoint in this rebellion sequence. When 章邯 besieges 魏咎 at Linji, Tian Dan leads Qi aid while 项梁’s Chu-side force also comes to help. Zhang Han defeats the relief army by surprise and kills Tian Dan. His death creates the Qi succession opening in which officials install 田假, 田荣 returns to contest the decision, and Qi later refuses Xiang Liang’s anti-Qin coalition request.
