TiDB
TiDB is PingCAP’s distributed relational database discussed in 关于 AI、开源、商业化与全球化的经验、教训和方法论 | 对谈 PingCAP CTO 东旭. 东旭 / Dongxu presents it as a “data container” that can expand with growing data scale while preserving the familiar value of relational transaction databases.
The source treats TiDB as a hard infrastructure bet: relational transaction databases are technically difficult but have a large market ceiling, and the 2015 timing benefited from better data-center networking, SSD adoption, lower hardware costs, and traditional enterprises beginning to absorb internet-style infrastructure. TiDB’s open-source adoption also becomes evidence for Open Source Infrastructure Trust because deep users could inspect, rely on, and contribute to the project before commercial revenue matured.
