宛县 / Wan County
宛县 / Wan County enters the wiki through Qinji 136 as the 南阳郡 center where the Qin commandery governor retreats after defeat by 刘邦. Liu Bang initially wants to bypass it and continue west, but 张良 warns that leaving a strong rear city could trap the army between Wan and Qin forces ahead.
Liu Bang accepts Zhang Liang’s advice, turns back at night, and surrounds Wan by morning. The crisis inside the city then produces 陈恢’s proposal: rather than force a costly assault or leave a dangerous enemy behind, Liu Bang can accept surrender, reward the governor, and keep moving toward 关中 under 怀王之约.
The surrender of Wan becomes the episode’s turning point from pure anti-Qin vengeance toward pacification. After Wan, nearby cities and people are said to join Liu Bang more readily because his army does not continue indiscriminate plunder or killing.
Hanji 1012 adds the later Wancheng use of the same place node as a failed surrender-management setup. 张绣 surrenders to 曹操 on 贾诩’s advice, but Cao Cao’s taking of 邹氏 makes the submission unstable before the attack has begun.
Hanji 1010 adds the pre-surrender stationing note. After 张济 dies at 穰城, 张绣 inherits the troops and stations at Wan before attaching to 刘表. The source’s transcript renders Wan as “渊城”; the wiki keeps the canonical Wancheng/Wan County form.
Hanji 1013 supplies the sequel. Zhang Xiu turns after Cao Cao rewards 胡车儿 and lets a plan to kill Zhang Xiu leak. The place therefore shifts from a Liu Bang surrender-pacification case to a late-Han example of unstable submission and 私欲驱动的统帅暴露.
Hanji 162-1 reuses Wan as the area toward which 袁先生 / 袁生 sends Liu Bang after the 荥阳 escape. Liu Bang moves through 武关 toward Wan, Ye, and Chou, recruits along the route, and refuses battle with 项羽, making Wan part of a diversion that relieves 荥阳相持 and 成皋.
