魏安釐王 / King Anxi of Wei
魏安釐王 / King Anxi of Wei enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·周纪》82丨大秦的核武器:白起来了! as the 魏国 ruler who succeeds 魏昭王 in 277 BCE, just as 秦国 is reorganizing conquered Chu territory and preparing renewed central-plains pressure.
The episode gives him an immediately hostile accession environment. In 276 BCE, 白起 attacks Wei and takes two cities; in 275 BCE, 魏冉 attacks twice, defeats a Han relief force, forces Wei to cede eight cities, then defeats 芒卯 and extracts another concession around Wen. The host reads this as a deliberate Qin “first lesson” for a new ruler: Wei Anxi Wang wants to fight, loses, and then has to concede.
The same source also introduces his younger brother Wei Wuji as 信陵君, placing Wei Anxi Wang beside the 战国四公子 branch before later episodes develop the brothers’ tension. For this page, the key point is that his reign opens under humiliation, territorial loss, and the unresolved question of whether Wei can avoid becoming a subordinate in Qin’s order.
《资治通鉴·周纪》83丨诸侯摆烂竟成了经典计中计? answers that unresolved question in a negative but more complicated way. Wei Anxi Wang first tries a weak 齐国 alignment, then joins 赵国 to attack 韩国 at 华阳之战, only to trigger Qin’s rescue of Han and suffer another disastrous defeat. When 苏代 warns him that 段干子’s land-for-peace proposal is 抱薪救火式割地求和, the king understands the logic but still cedes land, making his weakness procedural as well as military.
《资治通鉴·周纪》89丨秦王竟被他怼“妈宝男”? gives the next Wei-side complaint. In 268 BCE 武大夫绾 / 王绾 takes Huai from Wei, and in 266 BCE Qin takes nearby Xingqiu. The host summarizes Wei Anxi Wang’s dilemma as one in which refusing Qin invites attack, but submitting does not stop attack either.
《资治通鉴·周纪》95丨长平之战后秦国为什么没有灭了赵国(2) returns him to the Qin-Zhao crisis from the sidelines. At the opening of 长平之战, Wei ministers tell Wei Anxi Wang that Qin’s attack on 赵国 may benefit Wei, either by letting Wei follow the stronger Qin or by creating a chance to strike if Qin bogs down. 孔斌 is the dissenting minister: he warns that Qin’s appetite and 白起’s command make Zhao’s suffering a preview of Wei’s danger, not a gift.
《资治通鉴·周纪》96丨毛遂自荐(2) shows Wei Anxi Wang acting on both fear and caution during the 邯郸 siege. He sends 晋鄙 with 100,000 troops to rescue Zhao, but after 秦昭襄王 warns that Qin will attack Wei next, he orders Jin Bi to stop at 邺城. His policy therefore becomes partial aid without decisive commitment.
The same episode makes 新垣衍 a Wei channel into Zhao. Because the stopped Jin Bi army and Wei transit problem leave Chu’s promised aid uncertain, Xin Yuan Yan enters Handan and proposes that Wei and Zhao honor Qin Zhaoxiang Wang as western emperor. Wei Anxi Wang’s crisis posture now links coalition self-preservation to status-submission appeasement.
《资治通鉴·周纪》96丨毛遂自荐(3) adds the critique of that posture. 鲁仲连 argues to Xin Yuan Yan that honoring Qin as emperor would not protect Wei’s court; it would put Wei’s ruler, ministers, and favored people under Qin’s superior authority. Wei Anxi Wang’s halted rescue therefore looks less like safety and more like a path toward managed dependence.
