Wholist

Wholist was the college-classifieds idea Jared Friedman and [[TrippScribd|Tripp]] pursued after Y Combinator rejected their original pre-smartphone Uber-like proposal. In Jared Friedman, Partner, Y Combinator; Co-founder, Scribd, Jared describes Wholist as a Craigslist-like marketplace for college campuses, starting with Harvard and focused on textbooks, furniture, lamps, and similar student goods.

The source makes Wholist a failed marketplace-timing case. Jared says the service had no meaningful traction by Demo Day and later failed because students tended to buy at the start of the academic year and sell at the end, leaving supply and demand poorly matched. The failure pushed the founders into further idea sprints before Scribd.
