William Craig

William Craig appears in 698. The Troubles: The Brink of Civil War (Part 2) as the Northern Ireland home affairs minister who banned the planned Derry civil-rights march of 5 October 1968. Protesters still turned up, the RUC used batons and water cannon, and the resulting images helped turn the crisis international.

The episode also uses Craig to show Terence O’Neill’s reform dilemma. Craig warned that concessions to the minority could provoke a loyalist uprising, making late reform politically dangerous inside Stormont.
