夏侯惇 / Xiahou Dun
Hanji 953 places Xiahou Dun in Cao Cao’s post-Suanzao recovery. After the anti-董卓 coalition refuses 曹操’s attack plan and the Suanzao camp begins to dissolve, Cao Cao goes with Xiahou Dun toward Yangzhou to recruit a new force, showing Xiahou Dun as part of the early mobile cadre around Cao.
Hanji 975 backfills Xiahou Dun’s emergency role before the later 郭贡 scene. After 荀彧 detects 张邈 and 陈宫’s rebellion, he recalls Xiahou Dun from 濮阳 to 鄄城 because 曹操’s main force is away attacking 陶谦.
The source makes Xiahou Dun the coercive stabilizer in a weak rear. He finds grain-store fires and implicated officials, interrogates the city administration, and kills dozens involved in the rebellion. His movement helps hold Juancheng, but it also leaves Puyang open for 吕布 to seize.
夏侯惇 / Xiahou Dun enters the wiki through Hanji 978 as the Cao-side commander who warns 荀彧 against leaving 鄄城 to meet 郭贡. His warning is practical: Xun Yu is the main person stabilizing the city, so losing him would damage morale and command continuity.
The source uses Xiahou Dun as a counterweight rather than a failed adviser. His caution makes Xun Yu’s choice legible: Xun Yu is not casually brave, but deliberately decides that Guo Gong’s unsettled commitment makes direct composure more useful than staying behind the walls.
