夏育 / Xia Yu (late Han)

Hanji 909 introduces Xia Yu as the hu Wuhuan xiaoyu / protector of Wuhuan who submits an urgent 177 CE memorial about repeated 鲜卑 raids. He says Xianbei has attacked more than thirty times since spring and proposes mobilizing Youzhou commandery troops beyond the frontier to destroy the threat.

The source treats his proposal as overconfident. Xia Yu later leads one of the three Han columns out of Gaoliu, penetrates more than 2,000 li with over 10,000 cavalry, and is crushed when 檀石槐 gathers Xianbei elite forces. He returns with only a few dozen riders, is imprisoned at 洛阳, then redeems the offense through money and connections and is demoted to commoner.
