许负 / Xu Fu (physiognomist)

许负 / Xu Fu enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·秦纪》117-1|啪啪打脸!历史上“爽文”的开山鼻祖 as the physiognomist consulted by 魏豹. She predicts that 薄姬 will bear a future royal or imperial son, a statement Wei Bao interprets as good news for himself.

The episode uses Xu Fu as a fate-reading hinge rather than as a full biography. Her prediction becomes famous in the source’s telling because it is fulfilled only after Bao Ji enters 刘邦’s orbit and gives birth to 刘恒, later Emperor Wen of Han.

Qinji 135 番外篇1 turns Xu Fu herself into the subject. The transcript renders her name as 徐复 / 徐父, but the episode’s woman is linked here to the existing 许负 branch because the story is the female physiognomist line rather than 徐福 the sea-voyage fangshi. This source adds a legendary origin: birth in 221 BCE near Wen County, miraculous bagua imagery, early fortune-sensing reactions to visitors, and study of 《周易》占卜 and 相术.

The same source gives Xu Fu a Qin-collapse avoidance story. After 秦始皇 summons her to 咸阳, she feigns illness and tells her father that Qin is about to fall, making imperial face-reading a likely death trap. The provided transcript cuts off after she recognizes 刘邦 and asks her father to give up the county seal.

Qinji 135 番外篇2 completes that branch. It says Xu Fu’s recognition lets Liu Bang gain Wen County almost without resistance, and later Liu Bang rewards her after founding Han. The sequel also returns to the 魏豹 / 薄姬 prediction, then extends Xu Fu’s reputation through 邓通 and 周亚夫: both are warned that apparent wealth or status will end in hunger, and the episode narrates each as a fulfilled prediction under the Western Han succession field.

This page is intentionally separate from 徐福, the Qin fangshi attached to immortal-island voyages. The two names are homophonous in pinyin but use different Chinese characters and belong to different story branches.
