荀悦 / Xun Yue enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·周纪》95丨长平之战后秦国为什么没有灭了赵国（4） as the Eastern Han historian whose comment on 虞卿, 平原君, and 信陵君 criticizes their friend-protection behavior.
The episode uses him as the state-order counterweight to heroic friendship. Xun Yue does not deny that these men acted beyond ordinary courage or became famous for it; his concern is that praising such conduct can make 死党之义与守职奉上 stronger than obedience to office, ruler, and public duty.
