Current Profile

Hanji 941 supplies an early Xu You branch before his Yuan Shao adviser role. He appears with Wang Fen and Chen Yi around a claim that celestial signs suggest trouble for the eunuchs, helping open the failed 188 CE plan to seize Emperor Ling and install the Hefei Marquis.

Hanji 976 places him in Yuan Shao’s powerful adviser group with Ju Shou and Tian Feng. In that source, Xu You is less an independent protagonist than part of the evidence that an impressive adviser roster does not become state capacity unless the ruler can select, trust, and execute usable advice.

At Guandu, Xu You’s defection is now bounded by both motive trigger and operational payoff.
