徐州 / Xuzhou
Hanji 941 adds a late-Han recurrence notice before the later Cao Cao and Liu Bei branches. The episode says Yellow Turban forces in 青州 and Xuzhou rise again in late 188 and attack commanderies and counties, making Xuzhou part of the same civilian-disorder field that later becomes a warlord base and massacre setting.
Xuzhou appears in 105.苏东坡:一腔豪迈之气,一肚皮不合时宜 as one of 苏轼’s consequential local posts. The episode highlights his flood-response work there, saying he led people to resist flooding and preserve the city.
The source uses Xuzhou to balance the popular Su Dongpo image of food, poetry, and leisurely scenery. Su Shi’s public value also lies in emergency coordination, practical rule adjustment, and local responsibility, which connects the episode to Local Governance As Care / 地方治理作为照护 and the wiki’s broader Disaster Response State Capacity frame.
《资治通鉴·周纪》27丨围观魏惠王和齐威王是咋商业互捧 adds a much earlier Warring States use of the place-name through 徐州相王. In that source, 齐威王 and 魏惠王 / 梁惠王 meet at Xuzhou and mutually recognize kingly titles after 马陵之战, making the page connect local-governance Xuzhou to a distinct pre-Qin diplomacy node.
《资治通鉴·周纪》28丨韩昭侯的快乐你想象不到 adds the sequel: Xuzhou becomes the place 楚威王 surrounds or attacks after the title exchange angers other rulers. The location therefore marks both the ceremony of 徐州相王 and the visible cost of 名分秩序反弹.
《资治通鉴·秦纪》122-3|秦始皇竟和神仙撕起来了! adds an earlier Qin-imperial use of the same place through its Pengcheng name. After leaving former Qi territory, 秦始皇 passes through Pengcheng, identified by the host with present-day Xuzhou, to search the Si River for a lost 九鼎. The failed search makes Xuzhou/Pengcheng a site where imperial travel intersects with missing Zhou legitimacy symbols, distinct from both Xuzhou mutual kingship and Su Shi local governance.
Qinji 132 adds Pengcheng as the new Chu political center after 项梁 dies at 定陶. 项羽, 刘邦, and 吕臣 move 芈心 / 楚怀王 there from Xuyi. From Pengcheng, Mi Xin merges troops, distributes titles, recognizes 魏豹, and issues 怀王之约, turning the place into the staging point for both the 巨鹿 rescue and Liu Bang’s westward route toward 关中.
Hanji 151 part 1 makes Pengcheng the immediate object of 刘邦’s anti-项羽 coalition. Liu Bang captures the city while Xiang Yu is tied down by 田横 in Qi, but the source’s emphasis falls on the danger after capture: Pengcheng’s palace wealth, women, and celebratory drinking become the setting for 数胜必亡式胜利反噬 just before Xiang Yu returns.
Hanji 151 part 2 makes the area around Pengcheng the battle’s tactical field. Xiang Yu secretly returns, takes 萧县 to the west rather than immediately attacking the occupied capital, then drives Liu Bang’s coalition back through Pengcheng-side river terrain around Gu water, 泗水, and 睢水.
Hanji 971 supplies the darker immediate prehistory to the later Xuzhou transfer branch. After 曹嵩 is killed, 曹操 attacks 陶谦, defeats him near Pengcheng, and carries retaliation into the 徐州屠杀. The episode stresses that refugees from the Luoyang disaster had already moved east into Xuzhou, so revenge warfare falls on a crowded civilian refuge rather than only on Tao Qian’s army.
Hanji 973 adds the first late-Han foothold before the deathbed transfer scene. 陶谦 seeks help from 田楷 and 刘备 against 曹操, then gives Liu Bei four thousand Danyang soldiers, recommends him as Yuzhou inspector, and stations him at 小沛.
The same source also shows why Xuzhou remains vulnerable. Cao Cao’s renewed attack damages towns and defeats Liu Bei east of Tan, but the offensive is interrupted when 张邈 and 陈宫 bring 吕布 into 兖州.
Hanji 981 adds the initial late-Han handoff scene. 陶谦 dies after telling 糜竺 that only 刘备 can protect Xuzhou; Liu Bei first refuses because he has little force and the province is surrounded by local and outside risks. 陈登 and 孔融 then argue him into accepting.
Hanji 982 adds the late-Han transfer logic behind 刘备’s initial position. 糜竺, 陈登, and 孔融 support Liu Bei because he is legitimate and reputable but not strong enough to consume the local order. Xuzhou therefore becomes the main source case for 地方豪强代理人选择, with 袁术 rejected as a Huainan-backed absorption risk.
Hanji 986 adds the immediate late-Han succession trigger. 陶谦 dies, 刘备 takes over Xuzhou, and 曹操 considers attacking before Liu Bei’s position has settled. The source stops at the strategic question, which Hanji 987 then answers through 根本根据地优先.
Hanji 987 adds the late-Han temptation phase before the later Xuzhou transfer crisis. After 陶谦 dies and 刘备 has not yet fully rooted himself, 曹操 sees Xuzhou as a possible eastward target. 荀彧 warns that the target is less attractive than it looks: Cao Cao’s earlier harsh campaign has damaged Xuzhou民心, the wheat is already harvested, and attacking it would expose 兖州 to 吕布 and 张邈.
Hanji 1018 adds a late-Han administrative-status use. 吕布 wants 陈登 to obtain the Xuzhou governor title from 曹操, but the court does not grant it. In this source, Xuzhou is not a battle site; it is the office title that makes Lü Bu feel either recognized or cheated.
Hanji 1016 adds the immediately earlier exposure risk. 陈珪 argues that if 吕布 accepts 袁术’s marriage alliance, Xuzhou will become the forward zone for Yuan Shu’s northern ambitions. The page therefore gains 联姻同盟战场暴露 as a late-Han complement to the later governor-title dispute.
Hanji 999 adds the earlier transfer crisis that makes those later Xuzhou title disputes meaningful. 袁术 attacks 刘备, uses grain to draw 吕布 toward 下邳, and benefits from the disorder after 张飞 kills 曹豹. Xuzhou shifts from Liu Bei’s fragile base into Lü Bu’s claimed position, while Liu Bei survives only by submitting and moving to 小沛.
