Hanji 478 gives Yang Xing an earlier pattern: a lower-ranking official gets rare access to the ruler, treats an imperial probe as a chance to display political sharpness, and attacks Zhou Kan and Zhang Meng more aggressively than the episode thinks Yuan intended. His proposed compromise, giving Zhou Kan title and income without power, shows tactical cleverness but also a willingness to turn reputation management into punishment.

Hanji 479 gives Yang Xing a narrower but related profile. He has just met Yuan before the drinking conversation, and he encourages Jia’s ambition by saying Jia would be stronger than 五鹿充宗 as Shangshu Ling.
