垣郡 / Yuan Commandery
垣郡 / Yuan Commandery appears in 《资治通鉴·周纪》67丨战国“灭霸”白起的军事才能究竟如何 as a territorial chronology problem in the Qin-Han-Chu border world. The episode says Yuan was originally a 楚国 commandery, and that after 齐国, 韩国, and 魏国 attacked Chu, Han took part of it.
The host uses that split ownership to reconcile two close Qin notices. The Qin attack in 292 BCE is read as taking the still-Chu-held portion of Yuan, while the 291 BCE attack on Han is read as taking the Han-held portion. The place therefore matters because it prevents one name from being treated as a single clean territorial unit.
In the episode, Yuan also sits beside 魏冉’s enfeoffment material and the correction around 陶 / 定陶. Both cases show that place names in the annals need ownership timing, not just name matching.
