臧衍 / Zang Yan

臧衍 / Zang Yan enters the wiki through Hanji 171 part 2 as 臧荼’s son who flees to 匈奴 after Zang Tu’s failed early-Han Yan rebellion and replacement by 卢绾.

Hanji 191 develops the exile position without naming him directly in the transcript, referring to him as the former Yan king’s son. In Xiongnu territory, he persuades 张胜 that Yan’s apparent interest in suppressing 陈豨 is strategically dangerous: if the Chen Xi rebellion ends quickly, Liu Bang will have fewer reasons to tolerate another different-surname king in 燕国.

Zang Yan’s role shows how a defeated royal line can remain politically active after flight. He does not command Yan in the source, but his interpretation of Liu Bang’s rollback pattern changes Zhang Sheng’s conduct and helps pull Lu Wan into covert delay.
