笮融 / Ze Rong

Hanji 993 backfills Ze Rong as one of the Liu Yao-aligned forces 孙策 defeats during the 195 CE Jiangdong advance. The episode names Ze Rong’s fortification as part of the sequence after Sun Ce takes Niuzhu and before 刘繇 flees from Qu’a, making Ze Rong part of the battlefield pressure that precedes the later Yuzhang branch.

笮融 / Ze Rong enters the wiki through Hanji 995 as the former subordinate whom 陶谦 appoints to supervise grain transport across 广陵, 下邳, and Pengcheng. Instead of preserving that logistics assignment, Ze Rong diverts grain to build Buddhist temples, orders sutra recitation, offers tax exemptions to Buddhist households, and stages large bathing-Buddha feasts for 释迦牟尼佛’s birthday.

The episode does not treat this as evidence against Buddhist belief. It reads Ze Rong as a violent actor using religious infrastructure as a power base: after 曹操 defeats Tao Qian, Ze Rong flees with more than ten thousand followers, is received by 赵昱 in Guangling, murders him, plunders the commandery, then repeats the pattern against 薛礼 and later 朱皓 in 豫章郡.

Ze Rong is therefore the episode’s concentrated case for 工具化宗教权力 and 接纳者掠杀. The host stresses that ordinary bad actors still calculate costs and reciprocity, while Ze Rong behaves as a no-bottom-line actor whose moral language does not constrain violence.
