张超 / Zhang Chao (Late Han)

张超 / Zhang Chao (Late Han) enters the wiki through the Zang Hong branch in Hanji 996 and Hanji 997 as 臧洪’s old superior and the absent figure whose fate drives the loyalty conflict. Hanji 996 says Zhang Chao once employed Zang Hong in 广陵, later defends 雍丘 against 曹操, and expects Zang Hong to remember that old恩.

Zhang Chao matters less as an independently narrated actor than as the moral claim Zang Hong refuses to release. When 袁绍 refuses rescue and Cao Cao captures Yongqiu, Zhang Chao and his family are killed. Zang Hong later argues that because Yuan Shao had called 张邈 a brother, Zhang Miao’s brother Zhang Chao should also have received rescue. The host accepts the emotional force of that claim while questioning whether it can override Zang Hong’s current service to Yuan Shao and Yuan Shao’s alliance with Cao Cao.
