张耳 / Zhang Er
张耳 / Zhang Er enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·秦纪》103-2|司马迁的“idol” 为何死于酒色 as a former 信陵君 retainer who becomes the fallback patron for young 刘邦. The source says Liu Bang went to 大梁 hoping to join Xinlingjun’s retainer world, but arrived after Xinlingjun had died; hearing that Zhang Er was recruiting guests, he turned to Zhang Er instead.
The source uses Zhang Er less as an independent biography than as a transmission node. Through Zhang Er, Xinlingjun’s 战国养士 reputation becomes part of Liu Bang’s pre-imperial social world. The episode also notes that Liu Bang and Zhang Er formed a durable relationship and later became in-laws through Liu Bang’s daughter and Zhang Er’s son Zhang Ao.
Qinji 128-3 backfills Zhang Er’s anti-Qin setting. He and 陈馀 are Daliang men and sworn friends who hide in Chen County after Qin destroys Wei and puts a reward on them as former Wei worthies. Zhang Er’s role is practical and political: he stops Chen Yu from reacting to petty official humiliation, then later advises 陈胜 not to call himself king immediately.
That advice becomes 六国复国式反秦策略. Zhang Er argues that Chen Sheng should move west, restore descendants of the six old royal houses, and multiply Qin’s enemies before claiming kingship. The source therefore makes Zhang Er a carrier of old Wei elite judgment inside the first anti-Qin rebel regime.
Qinji 128-5 turns Zhang Er from adviser to Chen Sheng into adviser of 武臣’s separate Zhao line. After 周文 is defeated and reports spread that 陈胜 kills returning commanders on slander, Zhang Er and 陈馀 urge Wu Chen to call himself Zhao king. Once 蔡赐 makes Chen Sheng recognize Zhao temporarily, Zhang Er and Chen Yu advise Wu Chen not to attack Qin westward but to enlarge Zhao first.
The host adds a source-critical layer: 《史记》 says Zhang Er and Chen Yu also resent Chen Sheng for not using their plan and for appointing them only as commandants, while 《资治通鉴》 removes that motive. Zhang Er’s page therefore now carries both strategic judgment and possible private grievance under 史书删节与责任归属转移.
Qinji 128-8 does not directly prove Zhang Er’s intention, but it makes his perceived incentives decisive. 赵厮养卒 tells Yan that if 武臣 is killed, Zhang Er and 陈馀 can attack 燕国 under the banner of avenging the Zhao king. The episode therefore uses Zhang Er’s position inside Zhao to explain why Yan releases Wu Chen.
