Zhanglin Port / 张林港
Zhanglin Port was the early Chaoshan / 潮汕 outlet highlighted in No.205 ⛵️ 潮汕往事:侨批、经济特区和没有等来的深圳奇迹. Located around today’s Chenghai area of Shantou / 汕头, it connected river transport, Chaozhou prefectural markets, and maritime trade before steamships and siltation shifted more activity toward Shantou port.
The source uses Zhanglin Port to show that Chaoshan’s overseas orientation did not begin with modern treaty-port Shantou. It was already a trading node tied to Red Head Ships / 红头船, Siam rice, Thailand, and the early formation of Chaoshan Maritime Commercial Culture.
