The episodes do not develop Zhang Tan as an independent biography. His role is structural. Hanji 500 places him with Kuang Heng in the first successful attack on Shi Xian after Shi Xian loses 汉元帝’s backing and is moved away from the inner access channel. Hanji 502 then shows the reverse exposure: 王尊 uses Zhang Tan with Kuang Heng to argue that senior officials who accommodated Shi Xian while he was powerful should not later shift responsibility toward Yuan after the amnesty and regime change.
