赵岐 / Zhao Qi (late Han)
Updated · 4 episodes · 1 show · 4 source notes
Overview
赵岐 / Zhao Qi is a late-Han official whose current profile now begins with flight and concealment in Hanji 853 before moving into later envoy and court-support roles in Hanji 969, Hanji 982, and Hanji 999. The combined evidence makes him a survivor who later becomes a small but effective repair actor under 汉献帝.
Current Profile
Hanji 853 supplies the early survival layer. Zhao Qi resigns rather than serve under 左胜, brother of 左悺, and then becomes the target of 唐玹, who destroys Zhao Qi’s family and relatives. Zhao Qi escapes, changes his name, sells cakes in the Beihai market, and survives because 孙嵩 recognizes and shelters him.
Hanji 969 and Hanji 982 show a later official who can use stature without an army. In Qingzhou, Zhao Qi pressures 公孙瓒 through an imperial edict and then uses Yuan Shao’s old anti-Dong-Zhuo writing to create leverage for settlement. In 寿春, the episode contrasts him with 马日磾: Zhao Qi refuses to bend to 袁术, and Yuan Shu becomes wary rather than successful in using him.
Hanji 999 then uses Zhao Qi as the official who persuades 刘表 to support Emperor Xian’s return toward 洛阳. Liu Biao sends troops, supplies, and grain to the damaged court. Zhao Qi does not control force like 杨奉 or 韩暹, but his persuasion converts regional resources into court support.
Key Characteristics
- Early survivor who refuses shameful service under a eunuch-family superior and suffers family-destruction retaliation.
- Fugitive who survives through name change, market labor, and Sun Song’s hidden shelter.
- Envoy-mediator who uses imperial edict pressure and personal leverage to settle Qingzhou fighting.
- Principled court official whose conduct at Shouchun contrasts with Ma Ridi’s vulnerability before Yuan Shu.
- Persuader who helps turn Liu Biao’s regional resources toward Emperor Xian’s damaged court.
- Repair actor whose authority is rhetorical and institutional rather than military.
Evidence
- Early refusal and persecution: Hanji 853 says Zhao Qi resigns rather than serve under Zuo Sheng, then loses family and relatives to Tang Xuan’s hostile accusations.
- Fugitive shelter: Hanji 853 says Zhao Qi changes his name, sells cakes in Beihai, and is sheltered by Sun Song until Tang-family danger and amnesty conditions change.
- Qingzhou mediation: Hanji 969 says Zhao Qi pressures Gongsun Zan with Emperor Xian’s edict and uses old anti-Dong-Zhuo writing to gain leverage with Yuan Shao.
- Shouchun comportment: Hanji 982 contrasts Zhao Qi’s refusal to bend with Ma Ridi’s loss of authority before Yuan Shu.
- Court support: Hanji 999 says Zhao Qi persuades Liu Biao to send troops, supplies, and grain for Emperor Xian’s return toward Luoyang.
Qualifications
Hanji 853 writes 赵齐, while the existing route follows Zhao Qi / 赵岐 from the later source notes. The wiki treats the early fugitive and later envoy branches as one normalized route because the name, late-Han sequence, and received figure align, but it does not reconstruct every intervening office. The source notes do not make Zhao Qi an army holder; his impact works through edicts, reputation, and persuasion.
What Changed
- The profile now starts with Zhao Qi’s 160 CE refusal, family disaster, disguise, and Sun Song shelter.
- The later envoy material now reads as post-persecution repair activity rather than Zhao Qi’s first wiki appearance.
Relationships
- 左胜 - eunuch-family superior whose office triggers Zhao Qi’s resignation.
- 左悺 - Zuo Sheng’s brother and Huan-era eunuch marquis.
- 唐玹 - persecutor who destroys Zhao Qi’s family and relatives.
- 孙嵩 - shelterer who preserves Zhao Qi under disguise.
- 北海国 / 北海郡 - market region where Zhao Qi survives under a changed identity.
- 公孙瓒, 袁绍, and 青州 - mediation branch using edict pressure and personal leverage.
- 马日磾, 袁术, and 寿春 - official-comportment contrast under warlord pressure.
- 刘表, 汉献帝, and 洛阳 - court-support branch where Zhao Qi converts regional resources into aid.
- 收留逃亡者的牵连风险 - concept illustrated by Zhao Qi’s survival through Sun Song’s risky shelter.
- 名器合法性 - title-and-edict frame behind Zhao Qi’s later envoy leverage.
