Overview

赵璇 / Zhao Xuan is synthesized as the 汉哀帝-era Yushi Dafu who rises with 朱博 through the 傅太后 title-settlement coalition. Hanji 579 shows him receiving appointment documents when the palace “鼓妖” sound occurs, then joining Zhu Bo in punishing 施丹 after the title dispute. Hanji 580 then shows him pursuing 王莽, but the request to strip Wang Mang’s title and fief fails because 王政君 remains Wang Mang’s decisive shelter.

Current Profile

Hanji 579 places Zhao Xuan at the moment of appointment. Aidi appoints Zhu Bo chancellor and Zhao Xuan Yushi Dafu after both had supported Fu Taihou’s title side. As they are about to receive their documents, a bell-like palace sound is interpreted by Li Xun and Yang Xiong as a warning against the new ministers; Aidi ignores that interpretation.

The same source shows Zhao Xuan using the new office position almost immediately. After Aidi adopts Zhu Bo’s advice and grants the Dingtao-line title settlement, Zhu Bo and Zhao Xuan memorialize against Shi Dan, saying Shi Dan had attacked Dong Hong’s title proposal and damaged Aidi’s filial duty. Aidi approves their request and strips Shi Dan.

Hanji 580 places Zhao Xuan inside the anti-Wang pressure sequence. After Zhu Bo and Zhao Xuan help persuade Aidi against Shi Dan’s title and fief, they continue with a memorial against Wang Mang. They argue that Wang Mang once held the highest military-administrative rank but failed to support Aidi’s filial-title order, so his offense deserves public execution if not for the pardon and should still cost him marquisate and fief.

The case fails at the final step. Aidi sends Wang Mang back to his fief but leaves his title and fief intact because Wang Zhengjun remains the protective senior dowager. Zhao Xuan therefore marks the limit of formal accusation when the target still has a stronger kinship-patron channel.
