征贰 / Zheng Er (Jiaozhi)
Updated · 2 episodes · 1 show · 2 source notes
Overview
征贰 / Zheng Er is synthesized as 征侧’s sister and co-leader in the 40 CE Jiaozhi revolt. The current evidence gives less independent biography for Zheng Er than for Zheng Ce, but it consistently places her inside the same female-led revolt and the same 43 CE defeat under 马援.
Current Profile
Hanji 718 introduces Zheng Er through her joint action with Zheng Ce. After 苏定 attempts to punish Zheng Ce, the sisters revolt together in spring 40 CE. The revolt spreads beyond Miling as Jiuzhen, Rinan, Hepu, and other groups respond, and Zheng Ce turns the revolt into a sovereign claim.
Zheng Er’s current profile is therefore relational but important. She is not merely a family detail; the source frames the revolt as a sister-led political event, and 女性起义称王 depends on the shared action of the two women even though Zheng Ce is the ruler named as declaring herself king.
Hanji 718 and Hanji 720 both give the end of the branch. In 43 CE, Ma Yuan suppresses the Jiaozhi revolt, defeats and kills Zheng Ce and Zheng Er, and the campaign becomes part of the Eastern Han southern-frontier restoration sequence.

Evidence
- Joint uprising: Hanji 718 says Zheng Ce and Zheng Er revolt together in spring 40 CE.
- Coalition setting: Hanji 718 says Jiuzhen, Rinan, Hepu, and other groups respond to the revolt.
- Sovereignty branch: Hanji 718 says Zheng Ce seizes sixty-five cities, declares herself king, and sets the capital at Miling, making Zheng Er part of a female-led kingship event.
- Suppression outcome: Hanji 718 says Ma Yuan kills Zheng Ce and Zheng Er in 43 CE.
- Campaign continuity: Hanji 720 repeats that Ma Yuan defeats and kills Zheng Ce and Zheng Er during the Jiaozhi campaign.
Qualifications
The current wiki has no independent Zheng Er biography beyond her role with Zheng Ce. The page should not infer separate command structure, title, family background, or posthumous cult from the current source notes. Her durable role is co-leadership in the revolt and shared death in the suppression.
What Changed
- Created Zheng Er as a canonical page rather than leaving her as a source-scoped name in Hanji 720.
- Added the sister-led revolt role from Hanji 718 and the 43 CE defeat confirmation from Hanji 720.
Relationships
- 征侧 - sister and primary named ruler in the same revolt.
- 交趾郡 - commandery where Zheng Er’s revolt occurs.
- 苏定 - official whose action against Zheng Ce triggers the sister-led revolt.
- 马援 - general who defeats and kills Zheng Er.
- 女性起义称王 - concept for the female-led sovereignty branch in which Zheng Er participates.
