周昌 / Zhou Chang
周昌 / Zhou Chang enters the wiki through Hanji 181 as the yushi dafu who openly opposes 刘邦’s plan to replace crown prince 刘盈 with 刘如意. The source emphasizes his stutter and agitation: even without a polished argument, he refuses to accept an order to depose the crown prince.
The remonstrance makes Zhou Chang politically important to 吕雉. After the court scene, Lu Zhi thanks him because she reads the intervention as saving Liu Ying’s succession. This makes Zhou Chang both a ministerial check on Liu Bang’s preference and a person whom the empress branch must visibly respect.
The second half of the episode turns that prestige into a protective assignment. 赵尧 recommends that Liu Bang place a strong, feared minister beside Liu Ruyi in Zhao, and Liu Bang sends Zhou Chang as Zhao chancellor. The host treats this as inadequate protection: Zhou Chang loses central court position, lacks military command, and can protect Liu Ruyi only within tight limits.
Hanji 182 gives Zhou Chang a second Zhao-region role. After 陈豨 passes through 邯郸 with a huge retainer train, Zhou Chang reports to 刘邦 that Chen Xi has many guests, holds troops, and has been outside the center for years. The episode treats this as politically alert but also as the trigger for an investigation that helps push Chen Xi into open revolt.
