子西 / Zi Xi (Chu)

子西 / Zi Xi enters the wiki through 《资治通鉴·秦纪》119-2｜咱们都冤枉了背负2000多年黑锅的“叶公好龙” as the Chu lingyin whose judgment about 白公胜 fails. He sees Bai as trustworthy, brave, and useful because Bai knows 吴国 and can serve near the frontier. 叶公 warns him that those traits are dangerous if they are not restrained by 仁义, but Zi Xi recalls Bai anyway and grants him Bai county.

Zi Xi’s later policy reversal exposes that mistake. Bai wants Chu to attack 郑国 to avenge 太子建, but Zi Xi first delays the campaign and then rescues Zheng when 晋国 attacks it. In the episode’s reading, this turns Bai’s apparent trust and courage into open resentment; Bai eventually kills Zi Xi during the 白公胜之乱.
