左昌 / Zuo Chang (late Han)

左昌 / Zuo Chang enters the wiki through Hanji 929 as a Liangzhou inspector who steals a large amount of military grain. 盖勋 discovers the theft and warns him, which turns Zuo Chang’s corruption into a personal resentment against Gai.

The episode then shows Zuo Chang trying to convert office power into revenge. He sends Gai Xun, 辛曾, and Kong Chang to defend Ahyang against rebels, apparently hoping battlefield failure will give him a reason to punish Gai; instead Gai wins repeated victories.

When 金城太守陈懿 is killed and rebels besiege Zuo Chang at Ji County, Zuo asks Gai Xun for help. Gai still argues for rescue, making Zuo Chang the negative counterpart in 对事不对人式公义: private resentment drives Zuo’s earlier choices, while Gai refuses to answer private injury with dereliction of duty.
